Portrait of a Great Solar Prominence

| |

Captured on May 25, 2020, from my backyard near Dark Sky® Alqueva region, Portugal, around UT 14:42 with a Solar Ha telescope – at the wavelength of Hydrogen-Alpha, the high-resolution image features a gigantic solar prominence visible in great detail around the sun´s limb due to an exceptional seeing conditions (very good atmospheric stability). As in average the solar disc has a diameter of 1,391,000 km, we can determine that the large prominence could reach around 83,000 km high, which means 6,5 times larger than our planet Earth with a diameter of 12,742 km.  To see the full report sequence, with full disc image and time laspe video, click here.
