Solar Flare X1 from AR2994 in Motion – Still Photos and Time Lapse
Alqueva´s Dark Sky Reserve | By Year: 2022 | Solar Ha
Captured on 30th April, 2022, from Dark Sky® Alqueva region, Portugal, a high-resolution image and time lapse sequence, features the chromosphere activity on this day. I was testing my new camera from Player One Apollo-M Max and photographing another region of the sun, when I was notified by spaceweatherlive app that an eruption was on going at 13h47 UT with the release of an extraordinary Solar Flare X1-class. So I had to immediately change my initial plans and pointed as quickly as possible the telescope to the limb where the Flare departed, from sunspot AR2994 – hidden already behind the edge of the sun. According to Spcaceweather, “the explosion still produced enough radiation for a strong shortwave radio blackout over the mid-Atlantic Ocean and Europe”. Conditions were a bit unstable, but I’ve manage to make a short time lapse of about 27 minutes. The final result is a 4K high resolution solar movie comprising around 1,5 hours of images from both sequences, including the one I was capturing before the Flare happened.

Below is possible to watch the video time lapse sequence compiling 235 shots processed (first and second sequence), each one as result of a stack of the best 200 frames from each raw video. The final result is a 4K high resolution time lapse movie comprising around 1,5 hours.
