Colorful Starry Pencil – Stellar Color Class Written in the Stars and Revealed in the Earth Motion
When we first look at the night sky, we can barely distinguish the color of each star with our own naked eyes. Although, if we record them on very a long exposure sequence – due to the motion of rotating Earth and consequently the rotation of celestial sphere – a trailed path can reveal much information about our colorful sky. The wide angle scene is comprising 8h of consecutive long exposures captured from the Visual Observatory at Dark Sky® Alqueva, Portugal, and is revealing the light polar paths around northern star Polaris. Different color trails and shinning in blue, white, yellow or even orange. Each color is directly related to the type and temperature of each star. The hottest stars, are showing a blue color, but in opposition the coldest ones, can reveal an orange-reddish hues.
In astronomy, stellar classification is the classification of stars based on their spectral characteristics. Electromagnetic radiation from the star is analysed by splitting it with a prism or diffraction grating into a spectrum exhibiting the rainbow of colors interspersed with absorption lines. Each line indicates an ion of a certain chemical element, with the line strength indicating the abundance of that ion. The relative abundance of the different ions varies with the temperature of the photosphere. The spectral class of a star is a short code summarising the ionisation state, giving an objective measure of the photosphere’s temperature and density.

The Veil Nebula Supernova Remnant With Shining Filaments of Glowing Ionized Gas
The Veil Nebula, also known as the Cygnus Loop, is the result of a supernova remnant located toward the constellation of Cygnus at about 1,400 light-years away. The nebula was created between 5,000 to 15,000 years ago, after a cataclysmic explosion of a massive star. The interstellar shock wave was projected through space exciting interstellar material. The entire Veil Nebula spans 6 times the diameter of the full Moon which is equivalent to 70 light-years across and is still expanding into space. The nebula reveals these tangled filaments of glowing ionized gas. Ripples remarkably well separated into reddish hues from atomic hydrogen gas and blue-greenish hues from atomic oxygen gas. This deep space scene also includes the Witch’s Broom Nebula (NGC 6960) where bright 52 Cygni star is shining, and the Fleming’s Triangular Wisp (NGC6979) as well as NGC6974. The Veil Nebula was discovered by William Herschel on September 5, 1784. The image captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva observatory, in different wavelengths between Ha, OIII and RGB light, using the Anit-Halo PRO Dual-Band 3nm and a Poseidon-C Pro Camera from Player One Astronomy.

The Great Dragon of Pelican Nebula in All Its Glory
The image features a dark region between Pelican Nebula and the Cygnus Wall. This region is very often photographed specially because the well know North America nebula NGC7000 where this region of the sky is embedded, but many few images – I only found half a dozen in Astrobin until today, making some reference – are showing the real portrait of the “hidden” Dragon in all its glory, which I tried to emphasise in my framing and personally would like to named the Great Dragon of Pelican. The dark nebula LDN 935 which represents the figure shape of a Chinese Dragon, is known as the “Gulf of Mexico” – more easy to understand if seeing it in a different angle – is a region where the obscured interstellar dust lanes are absorbing and scattering the light, darkening the region between both nebulas. The greenish right edge reveals the bright interesting area known as the Cygnus Wall, a true stellar nursery of newly formed stars. The wall is eroded and illuminated by bright young stars, partially not visible for being occulted behind the dust they have just created. On the left side of the dust, is shining the Pelican Nebula, a star formation and evolving cloud of gas. The light from young energetic stars is slowly transforming the cold gas into hot gas, revealing the advancing boundary between both, known as the ionization front, and visible on the image as the bright orange-reddish region, with intricate filaments of cold gas visible along the front. The image captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva observatory, in different wavelengths between Ha, OIII and RGB light, using the Anit-Halo PRO Dual-Band 3nm and a Poseidon-C Pro Camera from Player One Astronomy.

Comet C/2023 E1 Atlas In a Rare Encounter with Flying Bat and Squid Nebula
A deepsky wide portrait captured in different wavelengths between Ha, OIII and RGB light, features a large reddish cloud of glowing hydrogen gas from the Sh2-129, known as Flying Bat nebula with a physical diameter of 271 light-years, seems to have embedded a blueish giant Squid which spans across the center 50 light-years long. Discovered in 2011 by French astrophotographer Nicolas Outters, and located in the constellation Cepheus, the very faint bipolar shape from this planetary nebula (stars like our sun transform themselves into white dwarfs by casting off their outer gaseous) is distinguished here by the blue-green emission from doubly ionized oxygen atoms. Although, an extra greenish diffuse ball is visible close to the edge of Flying Bat reddish wings, it’s not a new type of fancy nebulas, but a rare encounter with a solar system visitant, the lonely faint comet C/2023 E1 Atlas, shinning with a dimmer 14.7 magnitude, its orbiting the Sun every 85 years at an average distance of 19 AU. Among the 11 nights between July and August that I spent shooting the Flying Bat nebula to acumulate the total time exposure of 39.5 hours, I had a great luck for being capturing on the night of 5 August 2023 around UT23h, and using the Anit-Halo PRO Dual-Band 3nm from Player One. Because I was able to capture Ha and OIII at the same time, allowing the green coma of the comet to turn visible in my filtered light for being emitting in the same wavelength where OIII emission lies in the G and B channels. If it was only Ha, I would miss it because it was totally invisible in this narrowband red channel. Close to the left edge, are lying nebulas VdB 140 and LDN 446. The image was captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva Observatory, Cumeada, in Portugal, with a Poseidon-C Pro Camera.

IC 410 and IC 405 Shines in a Colorful Deepsky Portrait of HaOIII and RGB Light
A deepsky wide portrait captured in different wavelengths between Ha, OIII and RGB light, features two large emission nebulae complexes lying in the constellation of Auriga. At left (or up on the portrait version), IC410 also known as Tadpole Nebula, located at about 12,000 light-years away, is a cloud of glowing gas with 100 light-years across, sculpted by stellar winds and radiation from embedded open cluster NGC 1893, shinning near the dark dense cloud at the center of the star-forming nebula. Not faraway, two dense streamers of material can be noticed, trailing away from the nebula’s central regions. These cosmic tadpole, are potentially sites of ongoing star formation with about 10 light-years long. Bright colorful stars from Auriga constellation are shining in the center of this cosmic portrait, between the two main large nebulas. Visible on the right side of the landscape version (below on the portrait one), The Flaming Star nebula, IC 405, lies at about 1,500 light-years away. Glowing in red, convoluted clouds of hydrogen and filaments of atomic gas, are energized by hot, young variable O-type star AE Aurigae, which illuminates the nebula while its blue starlight is scattered by interstellar dust. While retracing the star’s motion through space, astronomers have conclude that AE Aurigae is a blue runaway star that is believed to have been ejected from the Orion nebula some 2.7 million years ago. The image was captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva Observatory, Cumeada, in Portugal, with a Poseidon-C Pro Camera from Player One Astronomy, and the new Anit-Halo PRO Dual-Band (Ha+OIII) 3nm.

SOLAR Chromosphere Time Lapse Shows the Sun Activity in Motion on October 2023
On 12th of October 2023, I took a solar time lapse of an entire full disc of the sun, showing a lot of interesting features in motion, such as eruptive prominences, filaments, active regions with minor flares, small spicules dancing like hair in the wind, and a delicate waved line of plasma floating hundreds of kilometers above the sun’s surface, stuck by the strong magnetic fields, until has been released into space in a blink of an eye. The video shows the chromosphere while the sun is rotating over the course of 3 hours. The time lapse sequence was captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva territory with a Player One Saturn-M SQR camera and a Lunt telescope LS100, generating 3TB of data. The final result is a 5K high resolution solar movie comprising 246 images over the course of about 3h, between UT11h05 and UT14h08..

Dark Moon Disc Against the Solar Chromosphere During the Partial Phase of Annular Solar Eclipse 2023
I was not in the path of the last Annular Solar Eclipse, but in collaboration with my friend James Sinclair which captured the data in US, I could then process it to achieve the result I’m sharing, something a bit fancy, different and less conventional, so I hope you enjoy it. The image shows a singular moment during the last annular solar eclipse, when the moon started to cover the disc of the sun. The entire disc of the moon is normally not possible to capture during partial phases, due to the fast shorter exposures we can only see the part of the disc visible in front of the solar disc, by contrast. So in order to reveal all the details of the chromosphere as well as the ambient light surrounding the limb’s disc that features all the prominences and spicules visible during the Eclipse, I did a fancy technique, which was to carefully remove the entire real silhouette shadow of the lunar disc captured during the maximum moment, to re-align and combine it again with this partial phase shot, this time, revealing in artistic way all the moon silhouette against the background light.

The Crescent and Soap Bubble Nebula Shining in a Wide Scene from Ha and OIII Emission
The image shows an HaOIII wide field where NGC 6888 also known as the Crescent Nebula, seems to be immersed in. Even looking similar to a supernova remnant, The Crescent is indeed a relatively rare nebula that surrounds WR136 (HD 192163) a Wolf-Rayet dying star in the constellation of Cygnus. The gigantic bubble of gas it was formed by the stellar wind. The central star is releasing massive amounts of gas and UV irradiation, exciting oxygen and hydrogen to emit in the blue and red wavelength illuminating the nebula. The Wolf-Rayet star will probably end up exploding as a supernova within the next 100,000 years. Shinning against the background sculptured by a massive cloud of hydrogen from Cygnus region, is visible another small bubble, known as the the “Soap Bubble” a planetary nebula (PN G75.5+1.7) very faint visible in filtered OIII light. The image was captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva Observatory, Cumeada, in Portugal. This was also the “first light” from my new combo system from Player One Astronomy, the Poseidon-C Pro Camera and the new Anit-Halo PRO Dual-Band (Ha+OIII) 3nm filter and it works incredibly well!

Blueish Reflection Nebula VdB 152 Shining in Wolf’s Cave Region
A wide field view from Wolf’s Cave region, located in Cepheus constellation, shows the faint blueish reflection nebula VdB 152, shining at the tip of the long dark nebula Barnard 175, lying at a distance of 1,400 light-years away. Not far way to right, shines the colorful planetary nebula Dengel-Hartl 5. The wide field scene also covers the dense dark nebula, known as LDN 1221, visible at the top edge. The image was captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva Official Observatory, in Portugal, with my Canon 6D modified and comprise 25h of exposure in RGB light, and is a result of the first light while testing the Omegon 76ED Apo triplet. I had a technical issue with my Ha lights, so I was not able to use it and properly reveal the supernova remnant arc this time. Hope you enjoy it!

2023 Bright Perseid Meteor and a Persistent Train
A time lapse sequence captured during Perseids meteor shower 2023 from Dark Sky® Alqueva, in Portugal, shows a fast bright meteor traveling at a speed of about 60 kilometers per second, disintegrating while passing through the thin atmosphere at high altitude. Meteors can excite green emission from oxygen atoms releasing the color we see, originated from ionized chemical elements. Blue-green is typically originated from magnesium, nickel also glows in green color, while calcium is radiating violet. Immediately after explodes, this Perseid meteor was lingering a visible orange trail, known as a persistent train, which persists visible for a few minutes. According to Nasa, “the glow emanated from atoms in the Earth’s atmosphere in the path of the meteor – atoms that had an electron knocked away and emit light during reacquisition.” The time lapse shows the initial wind-blown displacement of these bright former ions, while the “orange smoke” dissipates and drifts away in the Earth atmosphere.

Sequence of a Super “Blue” Moon 2023 Rising Over Monsaraz Castle
A sequence of single shot shows a Super Full “Blue” Moon which don’t have nothing of blue, rising above Monsaraz castle at Dark Sky® Alqueva, in Portugal. Blue Moon is just called when two full moons happen in the same month. Supermoons happen when a full moon approximately coincides with the moon’s perigee, or a point in its orbit at which it is closest to Earth. This makes the moon appear larger and brighter than usual. Below is a time lapse of this singular moment, to watch with sound on.

Make a wish…The Perseids Meteor Shower is Coming
Make a wish…the Perseids meteor shower is coming, with a peak happening next weekend from Friday night 11th to 12th, and Saturday 12th to 13th August, has an estimated average of 100 meteors per hour. The new moon will help the night show. Try to look for dark places and avoid being close to street lights. I’ve choose Dark Sky® Alqueva in Portugal, where I live, but you might look for a comfortable and safety place near your location. Meteors might appear to come from Perseus constellation where is located the radiant although they tend to be best visible late in the night, 45° away from the radiant in any direction up to the Zenith. The video I’m sharing today is made from real meteors accurately star aligned from a 360° VR scene I’ve captured during Perseids 2021, from one of our Dark Skies in Portugal. Watch the video with sound on ? Happy Perseids for everyone!
A lua nova ajudará o show.
Explore a Large Solar Filament 29x the Size of Earth in a Virtual Reality of the Sun in 360º
On 31th of July 2023, a huge filament was visible on the sun’s disc center. At first sight and according to the size, it seems to fit in a quarter of the solar diameter, which will probably indicates a size of around 370,000 km or 29x the size of our planet Earth. Solar filaments are clouds of ionized gas, or plasma, as seen in contrast above the chromosphere. When a solar filament is seen near the solar limb, then it is called a “prominence” instead of a filament. Prominences contain much cooler plasma and are anchored by magnetic field structure, to the Sun’s surface in the photosphere. So I’ve setup the LuntLS100 this time with a Player One Saturn-M SQR camera which is the perfect combination for this type of full disc images. The photo was captured from Dark Sky® territory, in Portugal at UT13h53m. Below you can experience a Virtual Reality 360º in 7K resolution using your desktop, or smartphone with gyroscope. A great “in loco” experience can be achieved if you wear a VR glasses.

Under the Nature to Enjoy the Supermoon of 1st August 2023
Sometimes all we need is an excuse to come outside and just being under the nature during nighttime while enjoying a wonderful super moonrise. Supermoons happen when a full moon approximately coincides with the moon’s perigee, or a point in its orbit at which it is closest to Earth. This makes the moon appear larger and brighter than usual. The 1st August 2023 was on of these moments. The single shot was captured in the beautiful landscape of Dark Sky® Alqueva territory, in Portugal.

Solar Chromosphere Showing a Vertical Prominence with Delicate Fine Threads
After a tough winter and spring with unstable weather finally the Summer has arrived with daily clear skies and sun, so I could finally make a solar session on June 28, 2023. The image features a nice chromosphere full of spicules visible in the limb with a vertical prominence showing delicate fine threads stuck in the strong magnetic fields. The image was captured at UT12h35 from Dark Sky® Alqueva territory, in Portugal. As we had a bit of dust from Canada, so I was not able to make a time lapse this time.

Solar Chromosphere Shows a Swirling Prominence Near Active Region 13327
After a few weeks of unstable weather with clouds and rain – very unusual for this time of the year – I could finally make a short solar session on June 5, 2023. The image features an eruptive prominence swirling near the Active Region 13327 and below, a large filament hovering over he chromosphere, captured at UT11h20 from Dark Sky® Alqueva territory, in Portugal. As the low dense clouds were passing by all the time, I was not able to make a time lapse. Let’s hope for better conditions in the upcoming days.

A Mosaic from the Galactic Heart Immersed in a Colorful Cosmic Dust
A mosaic composed by 6 panels comprising an integrated total time of 29 minutes exposure per panel, captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva Official Observatory, reveals a wide deep sky field near the core region of our galaxy. Besides showing a background completely full of stars and immersed in cosmic dust, we can easily recognize many well known deep sky objects, emission nebulae like Lagoon (M8) and IC4628. Reflection nebulae as Trifid M20 and many opaque dark regions that is blocking the light behind. Top left corner shows IC1284 while at the opposite edge, near the right center, the only star visible named 3 Sagittarii, stands very close to the real Galactic Center of Milky Way galaxy.

Thousands of Galaxies Immersed in the Reddish Hydrogen Gas of Virgo Cluster
The image features a deep wide-field scene captured at 300mm and comprising 43h of total integration exposure, showing galaxies at a distance of 48 million light-years away from Earth, where lies the Virgo Cluster. This collection of galaxies located in the constellation of Virgo, forms the heart of the larger Virgo Supercluster from which the Local Group containing our own Milky Way galaxy, belongs. It’s also known that our own Milky Way galaxy has clouds of hydrogen gas within, lying between us and the Virgo cluster. The image shows more than 1890 galaxies visible and identified in the annotated version below, and immersed in some of these hydrogen-alpha clouds, while mixed with the clouds contained in the cluster itself. At left, we can see the M100 galaxy, while at the right center shows the upside down “Question Mark (?)” shaped by the galaxies known as Markarian’s Chain, which includes the gigantic elliptical galaxy M87, the enormous elliptical galaxy M86 and M84, as well as the colorful galaxies M90, M91 and M88. The image was captured from Dark Sky® Alqueva Official Observatory, in Portugal, over the course of 11 nights.

Solar Photagraphy with the New Saturn-M SQR Camera from Player One Astronomy
A first light on solar imaging of my newest Saturn-M SQR camera from Player One Astronomy. With a large square sensor of 9MP (1”) it gives a great field of view and much larger resolution, specially useful for producing mosaics or full discs of the Sun in a one single run. On last May 4, 2023 I captured this first light on a very unstable and cloudy day with average to bad seeing conditions and even though the results seems pretty promising, don’t you think? First image was at 10bit mode and second and third images including the black and white version, on 14bit mode. Both has a huge dynamic range but what most impressed me was the fact that I don’t even needed to adjust the tilt plate as it comes from factory, because the image is completely clear, any kind of newton rings visible and non-amp-glow, which gives a perfect clear background. Thanks Player-One-Astronomy for your constant support! No doubts that even being a planetary camera, has an incredible potential for Solar photography too. For more details and a BTS video, visit my IG page.

Rare RED Aurora Display “SAR arc” over Dark Sky® Alqueva Observatory in Portugal on 24th April 2023
After checking many elements with so many coincidences I have now almost 99,9% certain that two nights ago, from 23th to 24th April, when I was over night at the official Observatory of Dark Sky® Alqueva, in Cumeada village, Portugal, capturing my latest deep sky target in a region of the sky full of galaxies known as Markarian’s Chain, I captured the rare moment of a red aurora borealis display glowing over Alqueva, as low as 38º latitude. It happened during the strong burst of activity with a severe magnetic storm reaching a geomagnetic K-index level of 8 between 00h45 and 02h15 (local time +1UT), and then decreasing to a Level k5. I had one of my cameras pointing to west region on a 300mm lens, covering a short field of view. We had a dark starry night, the sky was clear as shown on radar images. Our SQM system at the Observatory was registering the peak measurement of the red glowing light exactly at the same time that I had it visible on my images and the report from Spaceweather alert. Unfortunately I was too tired after a few consecutive nights shooting and was napping a bit between tasks and while my telescopes were working. I didn’t had my fish-eye all sky lens with me, so I had installed only one extra camera with a wide angle, which was pointing to the Milky Way – opposite direction – and started around 2AM when the level decreased suddenly, being registered only at the beginning of the time lapse. But fortunately the close-up deepsky sequence that covers the galaxy field, was showing at the end of the video an incredible red display which last for about 1h. In a question of a few minutes all the sky was fulfilled by an intense red glow coming apparently from “nowhere”, which impels me to believe that this could only be the result of an extreme aurora activity that was visible from all over northern Europe. My friend and TWAN colleague Alan Dyer pointed me to most plausible cause, an even rare type of auroras called SAR arc (Stable Auroral Red) arcs which were only discovered in 1956. Alan mentioned that “in the northern hemisphere, SARs occur south of the main aurora, and would be seen before any aurora itself appears at lower latitudes. They are almost always sub-visual but cameras pick them up easily”. I never saw something like that in my life, and it was not visible with naked-eye, I only noticed after being notified by Spaceweather alerts about the undergoing storm, and after checking if my deepsky camera was focused, but I remember to look up and think on that “weird reddish” light visible on my lcd screen, and even checked if the white balance was ok, but everything was set up properly as expected. Finally, I looked up to visually confirme if the sky was clean, and it was totally clear. Normally from Alqueva, I usual get green airglow on my photos, as red airglow is normally well seen in high altitude places, like Atacama or La Palma, and is indeed faint comparing to the level of brightness I get on histogram. We have confirmed and radar images shows that the sky was clear too, but I even checked the images from two nights before when I was capturing the same region of the sky but had a few high clouds and the appearance on the image is completely different, the image tends to be more pale white and faint galaxies simply vanish while stars shows a diffuse halo or a glow around them. And during the red aurora display the galaxies were still sharp as before and keep revealing the faint dusty oblong shape. Plus after checking Spaceweather website, I saw that an NLC camera located in Southern Spain (37ºN) captured the Northern Lights too, as well in Calar Alto Observatory.
Conclusion, I think that 24th April 2023 is probably an historic date and special moment for me, as the last confirmed reports about auroras in Portugal were from 85 years ago, on 25th de January 1938, and 66 years ago, on 21th January 1957 according to same archive news about this event, and none of them were about “SAR arc”.
The mosaic above shows single shot images from the time lapse sequence, regarding the wide field camera, and images from the left telescope lens. Centered reddish images was related with the middle of the most intense display around 01h38 (local time, with DST active is +1hUT) | PT: O mosaico acima mostra as imagens de disparo único a apartir da sequência time lapse, em relativas à câmara de grane campo e imagens do telescópio da esquerda a 300mm.

Solar Tornado Released into Space in a Time Lapse Captured from Portugal on 20th April 2023
On 20th of April 2023, I noticed that the solar chromosphere was featuring a gigantic prominence, so I prepared my solar telescope to start the photo session as I normally do when we have some interesting activity as well as clear and stable sky at Dark Sky® Alqueva region, in Portugal. After about 1h of images, I noticed that this prominence was growing even more which means that probably something bigger as about to happen and I couldn’t imagine that one of my dreams of capturing a Solar Tornado in motion was about to turn into reality. Due to my position on a terrace, my view at this time of the year is blocked after 4:30 PM, so I only had around 1h20m to keep capturing as much images as I could for a time lapse sequence that could show the evolution of this giant of plasma and the incredible moment when it suddenly lifted off, being released into space. According to Spaceweather.com “unlike tornadoes on Earth, which are shaped by wind, tornadoes on the sun are controlled by magnetism. Solar magnetic fields twist in a furious spiral, dragging clouds of plasma around with them. This particular tornado over-twisted, pinched off, and flew straight away from the sun. The debris will not hit Earth.” Here is the animations from NASA SDO and LASCO-c2 (Cactus CME detection) from this same day, showing the same giant as seen from the probe in Space. It seems that Cactus as detected also a CME or at least the release of this Tornado like if it was a CME. The final result is a 4K high resolution solar movie comprising 290 images over the course of about 2h, between UT13h15 and UT15h07.

Gigantic Solar Prominence in Motion from 29th January 2023
Captured on the 29th of January, 2023, from Dark Sky® Alqueva region, Portugal, a high-resolution image and time lapse sequence features the chromosphere activity, revealing a gigantic prominence in motion. It’s possible to see a lot of interesting changes on its shape. The size of this giant is stretching around the sun’s limb for thousands of kilometres being several times larger than our planet Earth. As comparison, it has a width beyond the largest system rings of planet Saturn. We can also notice a lot of fine spicules surrounding the solar disc and a fast eruptive prominence coming out from a sunspot, while the chromosphere itself is showing a slower motion. Conditions were good, so I’ve manage to make a time lapse of about 248 images. The final result is a 4K high resolution solar movie comprising around 1h20 minutes of photos.

Pairing with Jupiter and Venus in a Romantic Conjunction Scene
Me and my wife Apolónia decided to join the sky pairing yesterday night, for a nice twilight scene while planets Venus and Jupiter were still close in a romantic conjunction illuminated by the moonlight as seen from Alentejo fields inside Dark Sky® Alqueva territory, in Portugal. Even having a little haze due to high thin clouds, I used a fog filter in front of the lens to help distinguish the little shining guys.

Earth Shadow – The Beauty of a Total Lunar Eclipse in Motion
A video time lapse in 4K shows what is the deepest feeling of experiencing the incredible moment when the moon passes through the Earth’s shadow, giving the natural satellite a blood-red hue during a total lunar eclipse. The stars around the moon are again visible as the light of the moon drops drastically, giving rise to a unique moment of seeing the mesmerising presence of the Milky Way but at the same time, the shinning moon reflecting a low reddish light for being immersed inside the Umbra of the Earth shadow. The movie also intend to reveal the emotional feeling and ambience which surround us during this celestial event, when we are under the real darkness of a pristine starry sky like Mértola, in Dark Sky® Alqueva territory, Portugal. All the images were captured during the Total Lunar Eclipse of 16th May, 2022. For being near the closest point to our planet Earth, this Moon was also called a “Super Blood Moon”. According to timeanddate.com next Lunar Eclipse it will happen in 2023, on 5-6 May and will be a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse visible in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean and Antarctica. Comet ZTF and Mars Shinning close to Hyades and Pleiades Immersed in the Colorful Dusty Field of Taurus
A wide field view of the winter sky shows a duet of open clusters known as Hyades and Pleiades, involved in the faint dust from Taurus molecular cloud. Comet c/2022 E3 (ZTF) and planet Mars also joined the scene, while being visible in this region of the sky on February 13, 2023. The close-up image of Mars and Comet ZTF was taken from Dark Sky® Alqueva official osbervatory in Portugal, on this date with a 300mm lens and it was later rescaled and star aligned to perfectly match on the background deep field scene I had previously acquired and processed in 2020, which comprises 5h of long exposure integration taken from the same place with a 105mm lens to reveal the faintest dust of this colorful region of the winter sky. For that particular reason, the field unfortunately doesn’t cover entirely the area where is located planet Mars.
