The Sun’s Incident Light Reflected on a Waxing Gibbous Moon
Alqueva´s Dark Sky Reserve | By Year: 2024
I’ve just realised that since my “Titanium Moon” released and awarded as PCA on APOTY in 2019, I was not spending time to photograph our wonderful natural satellite, which I love, indeed. So I decided to capture a new image on my next opportunity with clear sky, and here it is! Taken on 19th Feb. 2024 the image is showing a Waxing Gibbous Moon but presented in an unusual way. Captured with an HDR technique, on my final composition I intend to show that the Moon is only visible due to the reflection of the Sun’s incident light. At this phase, the Illuminated surface of the Moon was 78%, while the remaining 22% of the Lunar disc was immersed in total darkness. At this stage, the shadow region is not possible to perceive with our naked eyes, due to the strong difference of brightness, but near the crescent moon our planet can illuminate the dark region in a smooth way turning the entire disc visible to the naked eye. This phenomenon is called an Earthshine and it was described for the first time, 500 years ago by Leonardo DaVinci. Taken with my deepsky Poseidon-C Pro Camera from Player One Astronomy and Takahashi FSQ106 from Dark Sky® Alqueva Observatory. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Tirada com a minha Poseidon-C Pro Camera from Player One Astronomy e Takahashi FSQ106 a partir do Observatório Dark Sky® Alqueva . Espero que vocês gostem tanto quanto eu gostei .
