A Solar Cloud in Motion and Sunspot AR3182 Releasing a Fast Eruptive Prominence – Photos and Time Lapse

| |

Captured on the January 3rd and 5th, 2023, from Dark Sky® Alqueva region, Portugal, a high-resolution image and time lapse sequence features the chromosphere activity during two days in a row, showing the sunspot AR3182 throwing a short and fast eruptive prominence just few hours before releasing an X1.2 Flare which occured on Jan. 6th just before 0100 UT, unfortunatly nightime in Portugal. On the January 3, the solar chromosphere was also featuring a cloud of fire hovering over the sun, trapped and suspended by magnetic strong forces. It’s possible to see a lot of interesting changes in the shape of this “cloud”as well as on the prominence structures. We can also notice a lot of fine spicules surrounding the solar disc, while the chromosphere itself shows a slower motion. Conditions were good, so I’ve manage to make a time lapse of about 634 images for both days. The final result is a 4K high resolution solar movie comprising around 2h45 minutes of photos.

Above are two still shots presented in landscape and portrait version, intended to help conduct the reader attention to the most interesting parts of the image. Below is possible to watch the video time lapse sequence compiling 634 shots processed from both days, each one as result of a stack of the best 200 frames from each raw video. The final result is a 4K high resolution time lapse movie comprising around 2h45 minutes.
